I have been using the UltraStudio Mini Recorder for several years on my 2014 MacBook Pro. My camera is connected to the HDMI input on the Mini Recorder. The Mini Recorder was connected to that Mac via a generation 1 Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt port on the Mac. Everything worked great.

UltraStudio 4K Mini is a portable Thunderbolt 3 capture and playback solution packed with the latest broadcast technology! You get broadcast quality 8 and 10‑bit high dynamic range capture in all formats up to 4K DCI at 60p, and 12‑bit high dynamic range capture in all formats up to 4K DCI at 30p. This Blackmagic device is not a camera, but a device for capturing HDMI (or SDI) into a form your computer can use. It is useful for providing a video assist from another camera, but will not trigger high-resolution on it. You can find the Blackmagic UltraStudio MiniRecorder manual and specifications at the Blackmagic website. Product description The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Monitor Playback Device is a very interesting and a highly useful device that Blackmagic has put out there. It is the 'playback' aspect of any Blackmagic capture and playback device (and of any capture and playback device in general). The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 4K Mini Capture and Playback Device is a portable Thunderbolt 3 Capture and Playback solution designed for Thunderbolt 3 computers with 12G‑SDI, HDMI, analog video and audio connections that lets customers build solutions for editing, color grading, live broadcast graphics, archiving from traditional broadcast decks and live internet streaming. Now I've upgraded to a new 2019 MacBook Pro with only USB-C ports. I purchased an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor to allow connection to the Mini Recorder. Unfortunately this does not work. The computer (and Blackmagic video app) do not recognize the UltraStudio Mini connection. 'No Desktop Video Device Detected'.
The only thing I can think of is that the Thunderbolt cable I'm using is the same Thunderbolt generation 1 cable that I used with the old Mac. Do I need to replace that with a Thunderbolt 2 cable to enable this to work?
